Last Updates - EVM 2012 is the Alternative Olympic Torch Relay for road peace

The European Velo Marathon 2012 - the alternative Olympic Torch Relay for Road Peace. It aims to unite Europe in in improving cycle safety and to encourage more people to travel by bycicle. The relay is being led by Mladen Belchev from Bulgaria who nearly died in a cycling accident in his home town recently. Despite his injuries Mladen is under taking a 2500 mile marathon from Pleven, Bulgaria to the Olympic stadium in London. He is looking for other cyclists who have been affected by road traffic accidents to join the relay and help carry the alternative olympic torch to the 2012 stadium. The marathon will start on June 23, 2012, the International day of the Olympics from Bulgaria and will finish in London, UK on July 27, 2012, when the official opening of the Olympic Games in London will happen. The aim is to cycle the 3000km from Pleven, visit the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, Switzerland and arrive safely for the opening of the Olympic Games. We also aim to promote actively road peace and supporting local causes along the way. We are looking for collaborators all around Europe. We invite organisations and individuals to join the EVM 2012 by organizing their own EVMs by using the rest of the EURO VELO routes and meet us in Lausanne, Switzerland.
